So McCain has firmed up his support among the agents of intolerance, and lost the Republicans who like to think of themselves as grown-ups. He’s well on track to losing not just the election and his honor, but his dignity as well. If that makes you feel sorry for him, just remember: McCain has always been the most pompous, most self-righteous, most self-serving son-of-a-bitch in Washington. I know that’s saying a lot, but you could look it up.
