Is Lieberman superfluous?

When Joe Lieberman threatens to switch parties, in violation of his repeatedly given word, we need to take the threat seriously, because, if he switched, the Republicans would be back in the majority (50-50, with Cheney to break the tie), Mitch McConnell would be Majority Leader, Trent Lott would be Majority Whip, and the GOP would control the committees and set the agenda for the floor.
Right?
Wrong.
Or so says Scott Keyes, and Hilzoy gives chapter and verse.
Great news, if true, and it looks to be true. But I'm puzzled why no "real" journalist has bothered to report it.
