Moustache of indignity

Matthew Yglesias thinks that Tom Friedman having a pie thrown in his face is funny.
Plastic boutonnières that squirt water are funny; whoopee cushions are funny; pies in the face are just demeaning. But the Moustache of Understanding cannot be brought down by meringue.
