Palin's Popularity in Alaska--paid for by petrodollars

The Republicans are citing Gov Palin's popularity in Alaska as a chief qualification.
How hard is it to be popular as a governor of a Petrostate when oil is above $100 a barrel and so you can easily cut taxes and even provide every taxpayer an energy rebate? Putin left office in Russia with approval ratings about where Palin's are in Alaska.
Nevertheless, Democrats should let the media stew on the Palin question, and spend their time focusing on what a McCain-Palin administration would do to America. Focusing on Palin's family lifestyle in particular could easily lead to an anti-elitist backlash, as sketched by Leighton Woodhouse at Huffington Post.
