The NYT story on President Obama’s plan to bring in some new staff mentions how new people are more in touch with what’s going on in the country. I am not sure that is true for people like David Plouffe, who is wired 24/7 into the White House whether he is living in Chicago or Bali.
But a benefit the story does not mention is more simple: Bringing in some people who are not physically and emotionally exhausted. In a modern White House — as anyone who has worked there knows — there is simply no way for people not to be physically ground down by the workload and stress. The White House needs an infusion of people who have been asleep at 3 am for the past two years.
