Betsy Markey of Colorado’s 4th District (Cook PVI R+6), who defeated the odious Marilyn Musgrave in the last election, has decided to vote yes on health care reform.  Markey was a “no” in November, so this is an important pickup.

REWARD GOOD BEHAVIOR.

How many No votes can Democrats cast and still pass the bill? I would think the optimal strategy, if you don’t want to marginalize Progressive ideas for the next decade, is for as many Progressive Congresscritters as possible to vote No. We can’t let Obama & Rahm take Progressive support for granted, or *every* bill will get watered down to the point of ineffectiveness by the Blue Dogs.

The link to Markey’s website was broken. I’ve fixed it. And I’ve donated.

MCD, Glenn Greenwald would be on your side; see http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/03/18/progressives/index.html. But I don’t get the logic of your (and his) position. If Progressives capitulate on the health care bill, because the health care bill is so much better than the status quo, how is that evidence that they will capitulate on future bills that would not necessarily be so much better than the status quo?

Thanks for this! I’m going to plan a fundraiser in D.C. for her so I’ll let you all know about it.
