Marx’s slogan “From each according to his abilities, to each according to his need!”, ironical or not, describes the contradiction of welfare economics not a scheme of economic organization, and should be dropped as the definition of communism.

I wish that “centrist” Democrats remembered the lessons of 1993 and 1994 as well as the Republicans do. Not passing health care reform this year would be a devastating blow to the Obama Presidency. And any Democrat who thinks that that sort of defeat wouldn’t cost Democrats seats on the Hill needs to have his or her (I’m looking at you, Mary Landrieu) head examined.

The American Conserative Union turns out to be a shake-down operation. And it couldn’t operate that way unless corporations were willing to pay. An excellent reason to retain the ban on corporate campaign contributions, a ban which the Red team on the Supreme Court would like to abolish.
