I’ve now lived here for fourteen years, and just now experienced my first significant earthquake. The shaking lasted perhaps half a minute; I didn’t lose any pottery.

Apparently the epicenter was just east of LAX, with a magnitude of 5.0. No reports of damage close to the epicenter.

So now I know what it feels like to be a dozen miles from a Richter 5 quake. I’ll take it over shoveling snow, any day.

Update Now downgraded to 4.7, with an aftershock of 3.2 (which I didn’t feel). The USGS site has a place for you to report your experience, and a map of the reports. Even near the epicenter, damage was none-to-slight.
