President Obama has nominated Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace David Souter on the US Supreme Court.
I will come back to the whispering campaign against her; for now, it seems clear that Obama is nominating the first Latina to the high court and daring the GOP to filibuster her. Republicans are doing badly enough with Latinos anyway. This might lock down a fast-growing voter segment for a couple of election cycles.
