Maybe Christopher Caldwell’s attack on Peter Leeson’s account of the functioning of 18th-century pirate crews is accurate; I haven’t read the book and don’t know the history. As Caldwell relates it, Leeson’s attempt to draw a libertarian moral from the behavior of a bunch of murderers and slavers doesn’t sound at all plausible.

Still, you have to give Leeson credit for a great title, don’t you?
