Northwestern Law Professor and Federalist Society founder Steve Calabresi on why there should not be a “car czar”:
Everyone who prefers using the Post Office to Federal Express will love government made cars.
1) Just used Express Mail the other day. It worked perfectly, and is far less expensive than FedEx.
2) Having government officials decide how a company should be restructured happens all the time. It’s called bankruptcy court.
This in many ways sums up Movement Conservatism: very smart people, taking reasonable assumptions about the world (i.e. generally speaking, markets allocate resources more efficiently than government) to illogical extremes, and ignoring evidence of reality when it does not fit their pre-conceptions.
