Someone asked Carly Fiorina whether Sarah Palin would be competent to run Hewlett Packard. She said, accurately, “No,” and then tried to explain why it didn’t matter. But, realizing that she might have put her foot in her mouth, Fiorina went on to shove it in all the way to the ankle by pointing out that John McCain also isn’t qualified to be CEO of HP.

This really isn’t what the McCain camp was hoping for today. They can’t plausibly argue with Fiorina, both because she’s on their team and because she is, after all, perhaps the world’s leading expert on being incompetent to run Hewlett Packard,
