is not quite the evidence of character one might think. It is not dangerous to the hunter; moose are placid and not very smart. It takes some cunning to find a moose to shoot – though I have come upon them more than once without making any special effort – and lot of heavy lifting to get them dressed and hauled to the freezer. But as game goes, a moose is a very large target that is neither on the run nor far away when you shoot it. On the whole, I think it takes a sporting rank on challenge grounds above salting slugs and hunting barns, but well below shooting quail or even woodchucks.
