The entire despicable budget performance in California has this especially deplorable footnote: along with a completely irresponsible smokescreen of borrowing and fakery, the final budget takes a 2/3 whack out of transit funding – maybe another $100m bite when the governator gets done with it! – while leaving roads and highways untouched. One more time: California is desperately underserved by transit, which is way overpriced. We cannot lane-mile ourselves out of crippling automobile congestion.
Sabotaging transit to prove Americans will never leave their cars, and really love two-hour commutes, is like sabotaging government to make Grover Norquist look smart.
