Mike Dukakis, who escapes the Boston winter each year by coming to LA to dazzle our students, had a hopeful reflection on the prolonged and increasingly nasty contest for the Democratic Presidential nomination.

“When Democrats get together, we always sound like cats fighting, and the Republicans think we’re tearing each other apart. But a couple of months later, it turns out we were just making more Democrats .”

For example: 110,000 new Democrats in Pennsylvania this year as of last week, counting both new registrants and party-switchers. The total number of Republicans actually fell.

Still, I’m ready for it to be over.
