Well, this greatly simplifies things, doesn’t it, and from the only actual legitimate head of government,and one of our favorite people, in Iraq. Time to shake the dust of those parts off our feet, or Bush needs to call Maliki a liar, revoke US recognition of his authority, and say right out that we’re occupying his country for some other reason than propping up its military.
[I continue to draw a blank trying to understand what that reason is, but this is because I simply can't believe that even Bush and his gang of enablers actually believe the guff they put out. The oil was always cheaper to buy than to conquer, the WMD story was a non-starter for anyone who had access to the internal analysis, no story no matter how cynical hangs together. If it doesn't turn out to be too painful, I can't wait to read the history of this loony period ten years from now. Until then it's just a chronic headache.]
