One linguistic tic that I heard over and over at the convention (and not just from Californians: Obama used it, too) was what I think of as the Valley-girl soooooo: I’m sooooo grateful; I’m soooooo proud; his leadership was sooooo valuable. Somehow the “that” clause I expect to follow never arrives. Is this now part of the American language?
