Moral clarity

January 28, 2007 By Mark Kleiman @markarkleiman

I’m frankly disappointed in my friends who oppose the surgulation, or plus-up, or whatever the White House is calling the latest Hail Mary pass.

What they don’t understand, being basically girly-men, is that if you really, really, really hate the terrorists, you’re willing to do anything to fight them, even if the policy in question makes the terrorists stronger and us weaker. And if you don’t really, really, really hate the terrorists, then you’re not anti-war, just on the other side.

Anyone can support an anti-terrorist policy that works. The true test of manliness and patriotism is supporting an anti-terrorist policy that won’t work. That’s why our Beloved Leader dreamed up the Surge: to separate the real Americans from the terrorist sympathizers.

I hope that’s clear now.
