My friend and UCLA colleague Tom Plate used to maintain a very civilized custom: he had a New Year’s Eve party that ran from 5pm-9pm, allowing the guests to either attend another party or to get home before the freeways became wall-to-wall with drunk drivers. I was musing about how sad it was that Tom had given up on that and wondering whether someone might think to fill the now-empty environmental niche.
And then a voice said, “If not me, who? And if not now, when?” (See? Not all of us have voices that tell us to commit mass murder.)
So you’re all invited. Casual. 5-9 on Sunday, at my place in Brentwood. Send me an email at kleiman (at) ucla (dot) edu and I’ll provide details. Last-minute drop-ins welcome. I’ll be e-viting the LA blogger list, but at this late date I have no idea what sort of crowd I’ll be able to attract.
