Even Bush admits he hasn’t kept us safe; safer, but not safe — and there is absolutely no empirical evidence that we’re in fact safer. Chertoff said just the other day that he can’t afford to keep us safe: rescinding a few tax cuts would solve that problem in a hurry.

If torture works, why haven’t we caught Osama?
Who would have predicted five years later he’s still be free? I mean, the Japanese Empire and the Third Reich didn’t last as long after we got involved.
It’s clear these immoral techniques are failures, and we need to adopt moral tactics. That should be America’s strength. The closer we stay to our strength, the better we do.

This is completely wrong; he boasted, not �confessed�, about his actions.
It seems that the calculation is the boasting will impress voters who think ”security at any cost [to someone else]”.
Can the the Democrats boast to voters that they have captured and tortured more brownskins than the Republicans?

It’s obvious, too, that prisoners in Guantanamo were attacking their guards with wepons. Obvious in Dan’s little mind, at least. But I’d want to insist again that anyone who thinks that all that’s happening in these “slap” categories is slapping is too big of a fool to take seriously. And of course the “attention grab” lead to serious injury on many occassions when it was one of the favorites of the Israelis in torturing Palestinians. This isn’t kid stuff.

Which part of “within his custody or physical control” do you have a problem understanding, Dan?
I also like the way you switch from “Guantanamo prisoners” to “Al Qaeda terrorists” like a good little wingnut. The teeny tiny little problem that the US government has yet to successfully convict one single prisoner for terrorism just slides off your back, don’t it?

Just out of curiosity, if you consider “violence to life and person”, “outrages upon personal dignity” and “degrading treatment” to be war crimes under CA3 of the Geneva Convention, do you then support the creation of tribunals to try Guantanamo prisoners for war crimes, given their maltreatment of their guards?
After all, if beating, drenching with bodily fluids, and attacking with weapons are terrible crimes when perpetrated by American guards against Al Qaeda terrorists, then surely they’re at least as terrible a list of crimes when perpetrated by Al Qaeda terrorists against American guards–right?
