I’d be there if I didn’t live in Massachusetts.
Thanks for your debunking of claims concerning the efficacy of Chuck Colson’s “InnerChange” program.
That was an important and necessary piece of work.
Colson has recently re-launched another program – once again backed by a study :
http://ijo.sagepub.com/cgi/reprint/49/4/410
[ One can't access that without a subscription, alas. ]
“Operation Starting Line” [ http://www.operationstartingline.net/site_hmpg.asp ] is prediminantly composed of Christian right, Biblical fundamentalist organizations – many affiliated with Colson on some way. Here’s the abreviated press release:
“COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 24, 2006—Governor Bob Taft and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction are currently implementing The Ohio Plan for Productive Offender Reentry and Recidivism Reduction, with the goal of the safe and successful return of offenders from Ohio prisons to communities across the state. It is a challenge that extends beyond the Ohio borders to all states across the country
To help meet the daunting need for prisoner rehabilitation, private, not-for-profit organizations are uniting with government to tackle the issue. Operation Starting Line, a partnership of volunteers from local churches and 30 national faith-based organizations, comes to Ohio for the first time Aug. 12 – 20 to launch its most extensive ongoing faith-based prisoner reform effort. ”
To date – as far as I can tell – the relaunch of OSL has received little but uncritically favorable coverage.

Are you in Our Nation's Capitol (the building on, you know, Capitol Hill), or Our Nation's Capital (the city)?
Sorry to be pedantic, but there's a good reason for the different spellings. And if you're going to be teaching public policy, for pete's sake, you really ought to know how to use the right one!
[Ooops! Yes, "capital" means "chief," while Capitol comes from the Capitoline Hill in Rome. Fixed now. MK.]

Blog commenter KCinDC is your contact for liberal drinking in the District. I can have lunch with you and talk about our Guantanamo litigation, if you're interested.
Drop me a line.

Is this going to be every Sunday? I hope so, as I'm moving to DC after Labor Day, and any regular habits I can establish will serve me well getting accustomed.
