The Bush Administration is stonewalling Congressional oversight of the Katrina mess, which is hardly surprising.
Blaming Bush for covering up mistakes is like blaming a skunk for stinking. It’s the nature of the beast.
It’s the current Congressional majority that deserves the blame. Arrogance from the White House is hardly unprecdented. What is unprecedented is the Congress’s supine acceptance of this violation of its institutional prerogatives.
Conveniently, the voters get to punish the dominant party in the Congress two years before they get to change the occupant of the White House. If the Congress as currently constituted won’t do its job, citizens will have to do theirs.
