The Katrina story keeps getting worse. But this administration is a sharing, internationalist, outward-looking operation, and it appears the incompetence and venality of the Iraq ‘reconstruction‘ is right up there: spectacular ($2 million in shrink-wrapped blocks of C-notes stored in a bathroom safe (a what?)), insouciant (“nonexistent paperwork and cash routinely taken from the main vault in Hilla without even a log to keep track of the transactions”). Of course the electricity is still broken and the oil isn’t flowing.
Not only has the whole thing been a circus of theft, waste, and malfeasance, but these guys can’t even manage a simple thing like keeping the whole stinking sepulchre whited. Can you believe they allowed a Special Inspector General in the room last year, and then let him back again after he spilled the beans?
