In preparing my criticism of Juan Cole for his comments on Steven Vincent’s murder, I stumbled on a paragraph, posted on his blog, that I dearly wish I had written:
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don’t we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it’s worked for over 200 years, and we’re not using it anymore.
Update A reader credits this to Bill Maher. Cole didn’t claim to have originated the line; he posted it, in quotation marks, as “Joke of the Day.”
