A team at UCLA has produced fusion in a tabletop device.
This is not, apparently, a form of fusion capable of driving electric-power generation. Still, given the spectacular futility of the last half-century of fusion research, this is truly exciting news. The project, funded by DARPA, is exactly the sort of blue-sky university-based research DARPA’s new defense-contractor management has decided to stop funding.
