Daylight Saving Time is such an obviously good idea that it makes me wonder why we ever go back to Daylight Wasting Time.
Update: A reader points me to this typical bit of obscurantist rant from NRO, whose author seems never to have heard the term “coordination problem.”
No, Mr. Miller, you can’t “save daylight,” but you can change the proportion of waking hours spent when the sun is up. If you’re so averse to centralized processes, perhaps you think we should abandon standard time entirely, and go back to the pre-railroad system of different local times in different towns?
My reader suggests that DST might be the next great left-right issue. I say: Bring it on!
