Brad DeLong reminds us of the words of Brythwold:

Hige sceal že heardra, heorte že cenre,

mod sceal že mare že ure maegen lytlaš.

Translated:

Mind must be stronger,

heart be higher,

courage must be greater,

as our strength lessens.

A worthy sentiment. Fortunately, on the evidence our strength is not lessening. The Presidential loss was clear but not large, and we actually picked up seats in the state legislatures and in the House races other than those in the Texamander.

More important yet: if this year wasn’t a fluke, we have finally found a mass funding base for the Democratic Party, which means that we can stop selling out to various narrow interests such as the entertainment companies and the financial-services firms.
