There’s nothing George W. Bush (still confused, at last count, about whether America can win the war on terror) won’t do to win the huge share of the Cuban-Americn vote he needs to carry Florida, without which he probably can’t be elected.
Mr. Bush will even be nice to terrorists, as long as they’re anti-Castro terrorists. And of course he will do whatever he can to make the miserable lives of Castro’s victims just a bit more miserable, because that demonstrates resolve.
But it doesn’t seem to be working. The Cuban vote is still mostly Republican, but Kerry is making inroads; he’s actually ahead among Cuban-Americans born in this country.
