He’s convinced that the “threat to Air Force One” on September 11th was a lie Cheney made up to persuade Bush not to fly straight back to Washington.

It’s almost inconceivable to me that the Vice-President would treat the President like a child who has to be fooled into doing what the grown-ups think he ought to do, but as Brad tells the story it makes a twisted kind of sense.

Footnote: Brad doesn’t bother to ask what the hell Mary Matalin and Karen Hughes were doing in the Presidential Emergency Operations Center that morning. Can you say “permanent campaign”?
