I’m trying really hard to get upset that the interim Iraqi government banned al-Arabiya after the network broadcast a tape purportedly made by Saddam Hussein in which he urged that Iraqis working with the interim government should be killed.
Really, really, really hard.
And I just can’t do it.
“Called into question the future of a free press“?! What planet are these people living on?
Lincoln would have shut al-Arabiya down in a minute. He knew the difference between the degree of civil liberty approprite to a functioning republic and the degree of civil liberty consistent with winning a civil war.
Update Yeah, I know this has me agreeing with Glenn Reynolds . So sue me.
[Update, displaying additional historical erudition and engaging a different American icon on my side of the argument, here.]
