TWO NOTES ON ARMISTICE DAY
1. Am I the only one who’s still annoyed about “Veterans’ Day”? Along with that other horror, “Presidents’ Day,” it means that we’ve completely forgotten the idea of holidays as commemorations of actual events, as opposed to vague notions. At least this year it happens to fall on the right day.
2. That one was going to be quick and easy, too. “Over by Christmas,” as I recall. Well, they never said which Christmas, did they?
